Life before the War
William was born 1889 in Southampton.  His parents were George Thomas and Fanny Susannah Wise who married 1886 in Southampton. Fanny died 1893 in Southampton.  George went on to marry Louisa Sarah Lydia, nee Hampton, 1895 in Christchurch District, Hampshire.  His father was born in Abbotts Ann, near Andover, Hampshire in 1856, his mother was born 1858 in Bournemouth, Hampshire.  Louisa was born 1863 in Longfleet, Dorset.

In 1891 George, his wife Fanny and their children, were living at 4 Oxford Road, St. Mary’s Parish, Southampton.  George was a Certified Schoolmaster.

By 1901 George and his second wife Louisa and children were living at 2, Britannia Road, Southampton and George was employed as a Vaccinations Officer.

The family had moved to 67 Alma Road, Southampton by 1910.  George was employed by Southampton Council as a Poor Law Officer.  William states he was a Clerk, although unemployed at the time of the census, and George Edward was employed by a Wholesale Flower Business as an Assistant Florist.

William died of his wounds on 29th July 1916 aged 26.  He is Remembered with Honour at the Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.

He was entitled to the British Service and Victory Medals.
