Unfortunately our research was only able to draw minimal information for William.  Only a record in the National Roll of Honour,  for William and another at the same address – possibly brother or father – has been sourced.

Allen, w. j., Rflmn., 8th Hampshire regiment (Isle of Wight Rifles)
Volunteering in 1915, he was drafted to Egypt before the end of the year. Later he served in Palestine and took part in several engagements, but in 1917 during severe fighting at Gaza was killed in action. He was entitled to the 1914 – 1915 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.

He volunteered at the commencement of hostilities and in the same year was drafted to India, where throughout the war he was engaged on duties of an important nature at various garrison stations. He returned to England in 1919, when he was demobilized and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
