Life before the War
Walter Cyril was born 1898 in Southampton to parents Walter Henry Charles and Annie, nee Wyatt, who married in 1897.  His siblings were George b. 1899, Reginald b. 1900 and Mabel b. 1907

In 1901 and 1911 the family were living at 13 Grove Terrace, Grove Road, Freemantle, Southampton.  Walter, the father, was a General Labourer at the Docks.

War Service
Walter enlisted in Southampton,joining the Machine Gun Corps, Infantry Battalion, as a Lance Corporal.  His service number was 5384. He was formerly with the Dorset Regiment, service number 15473.

He died from his wounds on 16th July 1916 aged 19.  He is Remembered with Honour at Dartmoor Cemetery, Becordel – Becourt, France.

He was entitled to the British Service and Victory Medals.
