Life before the War
Royland was born in 1899 in Southampton to parents Frederick and Lilian. Frederick was born in 1872, Reading, Berkshire, Lilian was born in 1874, Andover, Hampshire.
He had 2 brothers Alan Frederick 1901 – 1867 and Arthur Edington, and 2 sisters Irene Lilian 1903 and Agnes Christine 1908.
In the 1901 census, the family were living at 3 St. George’s Place, Southampton. Frederick was a Baggage Porter which was his own account.
In the census of 1911, the family had moved to 12, Maddison Street, Southampton. Frederick still has his own business of Baggage Porter, in the Shipping Trade.
War Service
Royland enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 51st Battalion as a Lance Corporal, service number 56323.
On the 16th January 1920, age 20, Royland died. He is Remembered with Honour at Southampton’s Old Cemetery.
Frederick and Lilian were living at 108, St. Mary Street, Southampton, when they were notified of their son’s death.
