Life before the War
Robert’s parents were Charles and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born in 1849 Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Robert’s siblings were:

The 1881 census shows the family living at 5 Bridge Court, Holy Rood Parish, Southampton. Elizabeth declared that her husband was “at sea”
By the 1911 census Robert was a boarder with the Bennett family. He was single and stated his occupation as Mariner. In 1915, just a few months before he was killed, he married Lillian Kirby in Southampton.
Robert died in France of an unspecified fever. He is Remembered with Honour at the Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France.
