Life before the War
Reginald, was born in 1898 to Ernest John and Annie Sophia (Powell) they were married in 1895.
He had one brother Frank Charles, who was born in 1899 and died in 1912.
His father Ernest John died in 1902 aged 30, his Probate read:
“Marchant Ernest John of 51 High Street Shirley Southampton died 6th January 1902 at the Royal South Hants and Southampton Hospital Southampton. Administration London 25 February 1902 to Annie Sophia Marchant widow Effects £154 0s 4d”
His mother Annie Sophia did not marry again and died in 1951, she also left a Probate:
“Marchant Annie Sophia of 7 Mulberry Walk Shirley Southampton widow died 21 April 1951. Probate Winchester 7 July 1951 to Ernest Moss merchant. Effects £217 5s 3d”
In the 1901 census the family lived at 51, High Street, where Ernest was employed by a Corn and Coal Merchants as a Manager.
In the 1911 census Annie is registered as a widow. She is registered with her 2 sons at 35, Denzil Avenue, Southampton. From the census, Annie does not appear to have any income and Reginald and Frank were both at school.

His mother was notified of his death, and was living at 79, Denys Road, Southampton.
Reginald is Remembered with Honour at The Mory Street Military Cemetery, St Leger, France.
Reginald was entitled to the British Service and Victory Medals.
