Family life Before The War.

Percival was born in June 1883 in Poole Dorset. His father was Henry J Sydenham and his mother Mary S Sydenham (1847).
He had 4 brothers Reginald H(1875) clerk to a timber merchant, Charles E (1875), Herbert J (1880), Bernard G(1885)and 3 sisters Mabel L (1881), Beatrice (1885), Ethel (1886).

The family employed a domestic / cook and lived at 167 Ringwood Road. Poole. Dorset, his father worked as a Miller Manager.

Percival worked as a servant / stationers assistant and lived at his employers premises – 31 Ordnance Road.Southampton.

In April 1915 he married Annie May Whiting in Ipswich and they lived at School House. Westerfield. Suffolk.

War Service

Percival joined the Suffolk Regiment and served as a Corporal, later the brigade became the Bedfordshire Regiment 1st Battalion. He served in France and Flanders, taking part in the battles which included The Battle of The Hindenberg Line. H was killed in action on 27th September 1918.

Memorial Information

He is remembered on Panel 4 and 5 of the Vis-En-Artois Memorial. This Memorial bears the names of over 9,000 men who fell in the period from 8 August 1918 to the date of the Armistice in the Advance to Victory in Picardy and Artois, between the Somme and Loos, and who have no known grave. They belonged to the forces of Great Britain and Ireland and South Africa.
Percival was awarded the Victory and British Medal.
