Percival Leonard Blake

Percival was born in Winchester in the summer of 1898 shortly before the family moved to Southampton. He was the second youngest of the five sons of Ernest and Annie Blake.

In 1911 the family were living at 81 Kingsley Road in Shirley, Southampton. Percival was 12 years old and still at school. Percival joined the Hampshire Regiment and died on 4th October 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium.

Three of Ernest and Annie’s children were killed in action during the war. Percival was 19 years of age when he died, which was the same age as his older brother Arthur when he died two years earlier in 1915 a few weeks after their brother Ernest.
