Life before the War

 Harold was born 1887 in Shirley, Southampton.

His parents were George Henry born 1859 in Moulsford, Berkshire and died 1938 in Southampton. His mother Mary Ann nee was born 1863 Hambledon, Hampshire. He had 7 siblings:

Cecil Frank 1903, who, with his wife, emigrated to the USA.

Harold married Maggie Easson 1911 in Southampton.

Maggie was born 1887 in Wolverhampton. They had a daughter Freda Margaret born 15th September 1913 in Southampton.

In 1891 the family were living in the All Saints District of Southampton. His father  George was a Coachman.

In the 1901 census the family were living at 2 Up, Back of Walls, All Saints, Southampton. Harold was employed as an Office Boy, whilst his father was working as a Hostler Groom.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 1 Albion Place, Southampton. Harold was employed as an Assistant Fruiterer.

His father was working as an Ostler whilst his mother was employed as a Caretaker.

War Service

Harold enlisted in Southampton. He joined the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), as  Private,  his service number was 87751.

He was formerly with the Hampshire Regiment, service number 33858.Harold Gubbins

On the 4th October 1918 he was killed in action in France & Flanders.

Frank is Remembered with Honour at the Cantaing British Cemetery, France.

He was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.
