Life before the War
Frederick was born in Southampton in 1901.  His parents were William and Ellen.  At the time of the 1911 Census William and Ellen were aged 43 and 39 respectively.  The family were living at 4 Kingsfield Road, All Saints, Southampton and William was employed as a Dyer and Cleaner.

Frederick joined the Army in 1918 and was a Private in the 51st (Graduated) Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment.  After training he served with his unit at various locations and did excellent work.  Unfortunately, owing to ill health he was not able to be transferred overseas and died on 17th November, 1918.  Frederick is buried in Southampton Old Cemetery.  Grave reference 155A.157

The 51st (Graduated) Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment was a training unit based at Canterbury and was part of 201st Brigade in 67th Division.  The battalion moved to Ipswich in March, 1918 and after the Armistice was sent to Germany as part of the Army of Occupation on the Rhine.
