Evelyn was the oldest of 3 siblings born to Harry Edwin and Mary Ann Lebern (nee Hartnell), who married in Southampton in 1882.
Harry was born in Southampton in 1858 and he died in Shirley in 1925.
Mary was born on 24 March 1858 in Southampton. She was living with her son at 31 Shanklin Road, Shirley in 1939 and she passed away in 1942.

Evelyn originally attested on 26 May 1902 and was stationed in Malta from 24 September 1908 until 30 September 1912; he was promoted to Corporal on 8 October 1911.
He was discharged after his 12 years service on 25 May 1914 but almost certainly immediately re-enlisted.
The Cemetery Extension is in part of an old orchard, and was used mainly by Field Ambulances from September 1915 until February 1917.
Evelyn’s headstone reads: “He died for you and me.”
