Edward was one of 16 siblings born to George and Sarah JANE Cool (nee Benham), who married in Lymington in 1878.

George was born in Brockenhurst in 1842 and died in Southampton in 1914. Jane was born in Shirley in 1856 and she passed away in the city in 1931.
The family lived at 8 Coxford Hill, Shirley Warren.

Edward volunteered in February 1915 and was attested into the royal Naval Air Service on 15 February 1916.
He was not successful in securing a transfer overseas because of an illness contracted in the Service.
He was based at the Chatham shore base HMS President II and became a member of the RAF on 1 April 1918.
Edward died in the Royal Naval Hospital, Windmill Road, Gillingham of pneumonia.
The cemetery holds many naval deaths from that hospital; it holds 835 burials and commemorations from WW1, 82 of which are unidentified.
