Life Before the War.

Charles was born in 1877 in Southampton, his partner was  Rose F White with whom he had 2 sons Ernest Thomas White born 22 February 1913 and  Charles  F. P. White born  September 1917.

Rose was born in Jersey Channel Islands in 1885 and worked as a general servant domestic, she had 1 sister Ethel.  She died in December 1947.

Charles joined the Mercantile Marine and served as a fireman on SS  Giant  which was an ex dredger named Ely. Unfortunately the SS Giant was lost at sea  on 7/8th of January 1917 in a severe storm in the English Channel. She had left  Le Hourdel bound for Dartmouth.   It is reported she is on the French coast near Perros Guirec.

Charles is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial and the Southampton Cenotaph
