Charles was the oldest of 5 siblings born to George and Kathleen Gibson (nee McLelland), who married in Rathdrum in 1888.
George was born in Droxford in 1851 and he died in Portswood on 12 August 1917.
Kathleen was born in County Meath in 1863 and it is not known when she passed away.
It’s not known when the family moved to Southampton from Ireland, but they lived at 72 Broadlands Road in Portswood.

It is a mystery what happened to Charles, because there is no record of a vessel Kia Ora sinking.
It must be assumed that he died of an illness during one of the ship’s regular “runs” between Southampton and France.
