Life before the War
Charles’s father William was born in 1876 in Gibraltar into a military family he died in 1952.
His mother Fanny Elizabeth nee Masters was born in 1875 Shirley, Southampton and died in 1951.
William married Fanny Elizabeth in 1894. Frederick was the eldest child and had nine siblings:

In the 1901 census, the Macey family were living at 28, Regent Street, Shirley, Southampton. William was a General Labourer.
In the 1911 cesus the family were now at 1, Didcot Road. William was still employed as a General Labourer and sons Frederick and Charles were both Butchers.
