Life before the War
Arthur was born on 31st July 1897 in Edgbaston, Birmingham.  His parents were Arthur and Mary Teresa, nee Organ, who married on 3rd June 1896 in Swansea, Wales.  Arthur was born 1867 in Glamorgan and Mary was born 1870 in Swansea.  Arthur had a sister Julia Mary who was born in 1898 and two brothers, John Charles born 1903 and Roy Walter born in 1909.

In the 1901 census the family was living at 110 Gillett Road, Ladywood, Birmingham.  Arthur senior was working as H.M. Inspector of Factories.  The family had a servant who was working for the family as a Nurse Housemaid.

By 1911 Arthur and his son Arthur had moved to Southampton and were living at 15 Furzedown Road, Highfield.  Arthur senior was employed as H.M. Inspector of Factories, Home Office Civil Servant.  He was employing two servants.

In the 1911 census his wife Mary, with her children John and Roy, were visitors at 54 Bryn Road, Swansea.  The head of the household was Sarah Ellen Organ. Another visitor was Charles Edward Wolfe.

Their daughter Julia was living away from home and was a pupil at a school in Bath, Somerset, at an address 45-46 Poulteney Street.
