Alfred was the youngest of 11 known siblings born to Albert and Rebecca Elizabeth Banger (nee Billing), who married in Portsmouth on 25 December 1872.
The couple are known to have had no less than 17 children, 11 of which had passed away before the 1911 Census.
Interestingly, Albert’s brother Stephen also had 17 children.
The family were at 77 Mount Pleasant Road at the 1901 Census and at 252 Derby Road at the 1911 Census.
Albert was born in Salisbury on 27 June 1850, and he died at 252 Derby Road in 1925.
Rebecca was born in Deptford in 1852 and she passed away in Portsmouth in 1929.
