Life Before The War.
Albert was born to James(1854) and Ellen (1853 – nee Cavell), he had 1 brother Edward J (or Edwin as recorded in 1891(1875) and 3 sisters, Ellen 1877, Rose (1879) and Lavinia (1882). In 1891 the family are recorded as living at 5 Albion Place.Bristol, his father James was working as a general labourer he was born in Taunton, his mother was born in Bath. Edwin? is recorded as being a port messenger and Ellen was working in a tobacconist factory.
In 1901 James is working as a general labourer, and Lavinia is a tailoress, Abert at this time is a non domestic groom.
Military Service.
Albert enlisted in the South Wales Borderers at Chatham and in 1911 he was serving and living at Southill Barracks in Chatham. Kent. From 4th August 1914 he with his battalion were sent to Tientsin in Northern China, and from 23rd September 1914 he was deployed with them to the region of Shandong and he landed at Lao Shan bay for operations with the Japanese against German positions at Tsingtao China.
Military Awards.
Albert was awarded the 1914 star, the Victory Medal, British War Medal and South Wales Borderers, he was killed in action on 7th November 1914 and is remembered on the Saiwan (China) Memorial and the Southampton Cenotaph.
