Albert was the fourth of 7 siblings born to John Thomas and Lily Jane Ethel Barnes (nee Barnes !), who married in Christchurch in 1892.
The family lived at 72 Priory Road, Portswood for the early part of the 20th century before moving to 26 Alfred St in St. Mary’s after the 1911 Census.
John Thomas, a carpenter, was born in Poole in 1869. At the 1891 Census, he was lodging at 319 Stour Road, Poole. He died in Southampton in 1938.
Lily was born in Christchurch in 1870 and she passed away at 72 Priory Road in 1910.

Albert enlisted into the Royal Navy on 23 December 1916, for the standard 12 years. He joined Shakespeare, which was launched on 7 July 1917, on 10 October 1917.
Whilst at sea, Albert was “lost overboard” and was presumed drowned.
